2 Years of I Have Autism, Autism Doesn't Have Me

Today is World Autism Awareness Day! And for me, it is also the two year anniversary where I posted my very first article titled I Have Autism, Autism Doesn't Have Me on the blog From Ad-Libs to Zephyrs.

I came up with the idea to share my autism story with all of you on comp735.com because I wanted everyone to know that just because you have autism, doesn't mean that you are less than in life.

I've learned that there are other people with autism including autism who don't let their disability keep them from following their dreams.

You have an autistic chef named Jeremiah who first made his first appearance on The Steve Harvey Show several months ago. You can watch his interview with Steve Harvey down below:

There is also a professor of animal science named Temple Grandin who was one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experiences with autism.

She has since gone on to write several books about autism including her 1996 book Thinking in Pictures: Other Reports from My Life with Autism.

Here's the link to her website:

Sometimes I didn't want to share my experiences with autism on the blog at first because I was afraid that the people on here wouldn't accept me or let alone judge me for who I am. That all changed me for when I was looking on the Episode app to read some new stories that night. When I clicked on the contest winners for the author who had entered this thing called Dream Job. And what caught my eyes was a story by Miss Luna Rose called Dream Job: Silent Voice. It was about a girl named Claire who has autism and can't speak. She is an aspiring writer who is afraid that nobody would hire because she's autistic. Then, she gets an opportunity that she can't refuse. You can read the Wattpad version on Silent Voice right here:

She also has another story titled Thousand Dollar Friend which is about a girl named Tara who is offered a thousand dollars to be friends with a girl named Aurora who has autism.

Here's the link to it:

After reading her stories, it made me feel included in a sense that I am not the only one who has autism. There are also other people who have other disabilities as well. Not just autism, but you have some kids, teens or adults who have Down Syndrome or ADHD.

I consider Luna my inspiration because she is the reason why I want to spread autism awareness everywhere. Whether it's through my writing or my voice, I want to show everyone that I am living proof that I may have autism, but it doesn't define me.

One more thing. I want to say thank you to Comp 735 LLC for giving me a chance to fulfill my dream of writing. I was an honor to have work with From Ad-Libs to Zephyrs. Without them, I don't know where I would be.

And for the fans who have supported me on this journey with When A ThinkBubble Bursts™ since day one, I want to say thank you as well. Can you believe that I have over 25,000 pages views on my blog?! And it's all because of you.
